San Antonio

For the holiday weekend we decided to head two hours northish to San Antonio. We got a great deal online for a hotel right on the Riverwalk. We ate at some delicious restaurants, almost fell in the river, got caught in torrential downpour, and of course remembered the Alamo. We definately could've spent more time there and are looking forward to going back. (sorry the pictures are all out of order.)

5 Unimportant Things About Me...

Bekah tagged me maybe a week or so ago. Here's the rules: link back to the person who tagged you (but I don't know how to do that so just go to Bekah's blog), post these rules on your blog, share five unimportant things about yourself and tag three people at the end of your entry. Here we go!

#1. I love to mow the lawn. I've really only ever mowed my parents lawn but I still love it. They have this great mower that pulls you behind it (watch out sprinklers). I also love the smell of a freshly mowed lawn.

#2. I love the fabric tricot. It's the silky fabric, you can make slips out of it. My aunt made me a blanket when I was born and I still have the desire to sleep with it.

#3. Every Saturday night 106.5 plays show tunes. I love to listen to them every week and sing along. It's pretty fun to try and guess the show they are from before they tell you.

#4. I have curly hair. I really like it but I keep trying to find products that will help with the frizzyness and to help form the perfect curl.

#5. I hate mushrooms! I won't eat them! I don't even like the smell of them.

(these are unimportant but actually really important :)

I tag Michelle, Sara Anne, and Barbara.

BRUISES

So...I like bruises. A lot. I don't like the getting of a bruise but I like the discoloration of the skin that goes with it. I've liked them for a long time. Here's a couple of the latest and greatest. The first one happened when I hit the car door corner with the back of my hand. It hurt but I like it a lot b/c I can see it so easily :) You may not be able to see it very well, but it's cool. The second one, on my ankle bone, I'm not sure how it happened and I forget about it sometimes but it's still great. Here's to all the great summer bruises coming up!!!

Dont' Mess With TEXAS

For those of you who don't know, Anth and I are spending the summer in Corpus Christi, TX. I know, not the most glamorous place to be in the summer (90 degree weather with 60-80 % humidity). We're here because Anth has an internship. Anth has been here since the beginning of May and I came down the end of May (I had to finish up school). Since we're only going to be here until the middle of August I'm not getting a job. It's a bit weird. But I plan on being our travel agent, chef, grocery shopper, laundry and house maid, getting back into shape, reading, sewing, and lounging at the pool to work on my Chaco tan. It should be a great summer. (If anyone has book recommendations please send them my way:)

Thus far we have been to the beach, tried some fish, gone on some great walks, and met some nice/interesting people.

This is our apartment. We found it online and really like it. We only have a blowup bed, card table and 4 chairs. It's nice! The first night we got there they gave us a free pizza, very nice people :)

I threw up

I’ve been threatening to do it for quite a number of years. From bad driving (Dad and sometimes Sara Anne), riding backwards in a boat (frontwards I’m usually fine), going on crazy amusement park rides, to of course airplanes. I don’t actually mind the flying part, it’s the taking off and the even more deadly decent that gets me. Yesterday I had 3 of them, count them, three, 1, 2, 3, the decent into Houston, Albuquerque, and Salt Lake. Houston wasn’t too bad, I took deep breaths, transported my mind to somewhere peaceful and made it through. At this point I thought I only had one more, somehow I didn’t realize until I was on the second plan that we’d be landing in Albuquerque and then going on to Salt Lake (I didn’t realize this until we were about to take off and I just about made them turn the plane around. I was pushing the little person service button and asking everyone around me if this plane went to Salt Lake and they just kept tell me that they were just going to Albuquerque. Finally a flight attendant came and calmed me down by assuring me that yes, we were going to Albuquerque but then onto Salt Lake.) On the second decent the pilot must have thought we were all amusement park bound because I felt like I was in Star Tours or something. Anyway I just made it through knowing the final one would be tricky. Final decent: Awful. It must have been really windy in the upper skies of Northern Utah. I’d been feeling sick as soon as the decent started and was debating whether I’d be able to hold it but then thought about the mess and I thought it better to be prepared then sorry. Of course the flight attendants were all buckled in their seats and thank goodness I was just two rows back so I motioned to one of them that I need a bag, she looked puzzled so I motioned throwing up. She asked me if I had one in the seat in front of me and I looked to find a small yellow newspaper plastic bag with holes in both ends. I held it up and she then unbuckled and handed me a plastic garbage bag. I opened the bag and stuffed my face in…I'll leave the rest to your imagination. I think it was brilliant thinking on my part to have gotten the bag and although it can’t have been pleasant for the people around me, I was careful to close off the bag, I don’t think they smelled a thing. The flight attendant did offer me a ginger ale, which I gratefully accepted.

Lesson learned: Now I have two jobs I know I can’t do, work in a vet, I’m allergic to the animals (story for anther time) and a flight attendant.

Side note: You may be asking why I was flying all day the day after Mother’s Day, and the answer is that Anthony and I drove to Corpus Christi, TX for his internship this summer but I had to return to finish up the school year.

Well, I am here to actually post some pictures of our bathroom. I will have to post later to talk more about how things are going but right now I will just post pictures of the bathroom.

I'm Done!!!

About 14 months ago I started a masters program through National University (located in San Diego, CA). It was a Masters in Education. Each class was a month long, jammed packed but flew by quickly. Our "capstone" or thesis project was to write the National Board Certified Teacher portfolio. (Teachers who do this don't have to re-certify for 10 years and in Utah get an extra $1000 a year for 10 years) I'm not able to submit my portfolio because I haven't been teaching the required amount of time. For this portfolio we had to video tape ourselves teaching, discuss how we assess our students, with specific examples of two students, and discuss how we work with parents, the community, continued learning, and our leadership opportunities. Last night at 6:30pm I turned in my portfolio!!! It's over, I'm finished, it's completed!!! I can't believe it. There was a time when it was questionable whether or not I'd finish a BS. There are multiple reasons I decided to do this program, it was fast, I was single when it started, and I get paid more (about $200 more a month!). It's been just about the only thing on my mind...what will I do now? Here's a list of things I've missed the last 14 months and can now "get back into:"
-sewing
-reading for fun (if you've read anything really great lately let me know)
-exercising (it's happened a bit on and off)
-getting into one or two TV shows (probably LOST and Bones or AI)
-teaching my classes at school
-leading the ward choir
-staying in touch with long lost friends
-etc, etc, etc

The official graduation is May 1st but I'm celebrating now. You're all welcome to celebrate with me. Oh and please call me "Master Lynette" :)
