Goodbye Dolly

We're still alive! We survived our first Hurricane! Truth be told, I was a bit disappointed. It was fun to watch the torrential downpour, sheets and sheets of rain, huge gusts of wind, trees bending over, thunder that shook the apartment building and lightening that lit the whole city, but I was hoping for a bit more. I'm not really sure what, maybe cars covered with water or houses destroyed . Ok, I am thankful that it wasn't any worse than it was. I did go for a walk out in the hurricane and had to be careful that my umbrella didn't get blown away or turned wrong side out.

Dolly made landfall at about 1pm (Texas time) about 1 1/2 to 2 hours south of us. Anthony went into work this morning (I was a bit upset about this, his work is in the direction of the hurricane, what if it had been worse?!) so I was here by myself. I tried to get some great pictures but I only have them from my apt. From what I can determine from the inside of my apt. Corpus didn't receive extensive damage. Perhaps a little flooding but nothing serious. Right now we have light rain and windy conditions. It should be clear by this time tomorrow and everyone will be wondering if we really had a hurricane (or so I've been told).

So we have weathered a hurricane (pun intended:) We didn't die, but almost, and how we know what to do in case of this type of natural disaster. I'm trying to think of other natural disasters people I know have been in. If you've been in one let me know.

This pictures are of our parking lot, can you see the rain coming down??? The second one is out our living room window. The trees are really blowing!!! I'll try to attach more pictures later.

Hello DOLLY!!

For those of you that don't watch the news or are otherwise unaware, there is a Tropical Storm/Hurricane warning for Corpus Christi (Hurricane Dolly). It's all rather exciting!

I went to the store this morning to get a few items and noticed the local grocery store packed. Who goes grocery shopping at 9 am Monday morning? As I walked through the store I noticed people with carts full of food and wondered what holiday they celebrated this time of year here in Texas that I wasn't aware of. There was even a camera crew filming. And of course I just thought "Oh, they are filming a commercial." As I was leaving the store I ran into a lady from my ward who asked "So your here buying food," and I thought "well, I am in a grocery store." But then she said "for the hurricane." We don't have TV and I don't really listen to the radio so I think I was the only one in Texas, Corpus Christi, Texas that had no idea that we are about to die.

Here's the latest picture of what's going to happen. It's not supposed to hit until Wednesday night or early Thursday. Anthony came home a bit nervous so we went back to the store to see shelves bare and people running around like crazy. It was pretty funny. I just kept laughing and every time I talked to anyone (family members) I would reassure them that we weren't dead yet. I think Anthony wanted me to take it a bit more seriously. And I am now. Even a few ward members have called to say we're welcome to come over if we wanted. One even said we could follow them to Dallas if need be. But secretly I can't wait to take some pictures of trees being blown by high winds. I really don't want it to get worse than that. We'll keep y'all posted on the updates and possibilities of us dying.

What's in a Name?

We recently found these signs. What good names!!!

Beauty School Dropout

Anth has a training/some kind of conference up in Houston this week so on Saturday he went to get a haircut. The lady that cut his hair did an awful job. So he came home and decided to "fix" the awful job, using his own face electric razer. It turned out pretty bad. But it was his first attempt at cutting his hair. I'd like to some day be able to cut his hair ( I need to learn how from his sister-in-law who previously cut it) but perhaps if he keeps trying to fix what they do at the salon he won't need me. (Notice the extra short part a little above and to the right of his ear.)

San Antonio 2

See previous post.
We also, after getting lost, found the Temple. It's beautiful. Because of some scheduling flaws/misunderstandings we weren't able to actually do anything there but walk around and pose for pictures.

San Antonio

For the holiday weekend we decided to head two hours northish to San Antonio. We got a great deal online for a hotel right on the Riverwalk. We ate at some delicious restaurants, almost fell in the river, got caught in torrential downpour, and of course remembered the Alamo. We definately could've spent more time there and are looking forward to going back. (sorry the pictures are all out of order.)
