Grandma Weston

My grandma passed away this past friday.  Vernetta Coombs Weston.  She was the last grandmother I had.  She was my fathers mother.  I knew her the best and longest of any grandparent.  I can't really believe she's gone.  She's been sick for a little while so I know she's happy to be gone and with my grandfather.  Growing up I have a lot of memories of her correcting me.  I know she was trying to make me a better person but I didn't always realize that.  And I like to think that maybe I reminded her a bit of herself so she wanted me to be better.  I was the only grandchild kind of named after her.  I'm pretty sure deep down I was her favorite.  Some of my favorite memories of her are when she'd come every Sunday for dinner and bring a seven layer dip or artichoke dip. Or at Thanksgiving when she'd bring creamed onions.
Last year, a couple days after having Lucy, my sister drove us up to Utah by way of Farmington, NM so we could show my grandmother her newest great-grand child.  I'm so grateful we stopped.  It was the last time I saw her alive and I love that I have a picture of her and Lucy.
I was able to attend her funeral.  I was most excited to see a lot of family that I haven't seen in years.  It was neat to reminisce about her life and be apart of saying goodbye to her.
I will miss my Grandma Weston but I'm so happy that she's been reunited with my Grandpa.
She loved twizzlers

Stitches

Last Thursday after I had laid Lucy down for a nap Benson and I were dancing in the living room.  Mostly his dancing consists of turning around and around in circles (I of course have amazing dance moves).  After one of these circles he feel down against our fireplace.  He started crying and I picked him up telling him it was ok.  As I pulled him away from me I notice that I was covered with blood and he had blood pouring down his face.  That's just about the worst experience for a mother, or anyone for that matter.  So of course I freaked out.  I rushed him into the kitchen, laid him on the counter, grabbed as many paper towels as I could and applied pressure.  Then I called Anthony.  He was at work and since I was panicking he assumed Benson's head was falling off and told me to call 911.  I told him I wasn't going to call 911 but to hurry home.

I called a neighbor and asked if I could drop off Lucy so I could focus on Benson.  She was so kind!  After dropping her off we rushed over to the instacare.   Although we had a bit of a wait they brought out an icepack and had Shrek playing on the TV.  I also found a crushed-up bag of mini oreos in my bag (tender mercies).  Once we were in the room Benson did amazingly well.  No crying when they did the shots and just a minimum of hysteria when they put the sheet with the hole on his face to stitch up his eye and pretty much throughout the whole stitching process.  (Of course it didn't help that he was strapped onto a board.)  He really was so sweet and tried so hard to be brave.  At one point I asked him if he wanted me to sing to him and he said yes.  I asked if he wanted "The Wheels on the Bus" or "I'm a Child of God" and he choose "I'm a Child of God."

7 stitches later he was doing great and didn't want to leave the dr because they gave him a truck, juice, more cookies and a certificate of bravery.

I never want to experience that again.

About a week later the stitches came out.  It was considerably less traumatic.
His eyebrow looks pretty great and hopefully it'll grow in so it won't show at all.

In the waiting room!  We love Oreo's!!!

March and April

2013 is flying by!  I can't believe April is half over.

Our Spring has been a lot of fun.  The beginning of March found Lucy and me in Utah (really fast/short trip) for my oldest nephews wedding.  It was beautiful!  Really Joey feels like a little brother.  I was 11 when he was born and my sisters and I were always tending or playing with him.  I had only met Josey at Christmas but she is amazing!  They will be so happy together!  It was wonderful to be together with so much of my family.  8 of my 10 siblings were able to come and we had so much fun.  I just wish we all live closer.
 The happy couple!

My sister Diane and her beautiful family
Sara, Mom, Michelle, Rachel, Barbara, Diane, Lynette (Lucy), Carrie

At the end of March I traveled with a friend, in her mini van, plus our 4 kids to Oklahoma for Easter.  The 10+ hr drive wasn't that bad but we were happy to finally get there.  We loved being with cousins for a few days and Easter with family was great.  Thanks Elggren's and Bills!
David and Lucy loved playing together!

Benson and Adalaide soaking their hands.  (Benson's fingernails were falling off due to Hand, foot and mouth so we'd soak them every day to help keep them clean.  And how can only one 2 yr old have all the fun playing in water?!)

 Benson feeding David

Mowing with bubble mowers (it's a really good thing they had two:)
 Lucy and David swinging

He was so happy when he discovered there was something INSIDE the eggs!

 Cousins!

 Easter Sunday.

While I was in OK Anth started building/fixing our side fence.  Every time the wind blew it would fall over.  He and Benson did a wonderful job!  Benson received his first "man-hammer" on this job (a name he picked himself).  He has about 4 others that are plastic or wood but they would break or couldn't hammer the real nails in so I surprised him with a "real" one.  He loves it!  It's the last thing he talks about before bed and the first thing he wants in the morning.  I am a bit nervous about the sharp edge on the end but we've talked about hammer safety so hopefully no one loses an eye or gets gouged in the head.
Frame work and posts

Finished!

Last week we celebrated Anthony's 30th birthday!  Welcome to the 30's dear!  We had a fun week giving him gifts the kids picked out from the dollar store and ended up with yummy Thai food and birthday banana cream pie!
